William Dao is a theatre artist, video artist and emerging filmmaker.
He is a director, dramaturge and sometimes writer.
He is the co-curator/editor of the Hybrid and Experimental section for The Ex-Puritan Magazine.
He is a graduate of the Soulpepper Academy and the University of Toronto's Centre for Drama, Theatre and Performance Studies.
In 2021, he wrote his first short story titled music to watch boys to which was presented as a video art collage for an online reading co-hosted by the Historic Joy Kogawa House in Vancouver and the ArQuives in Toronto.
During his time at U of T, William and company have won the President’s Award for Best Production on three separate occasions at the U of T Drama Festival for The Rhythm Method (2018), Lone Island Lovers (2019) and The Boy Who Cried (2020), adjudicated by Jill Carter, Autumn Smith and Aaron Jan respectively. He has also received the Robert Gill Award for Best Direction for his work on Lone Island Lovers and The Boy Who Cried.
Currently, he is writing a short film titled The Saddest Girl On The Internet.
